Video Clip #11 Achievable & Challenging Goals for Children
I agree with the speakers in this clip that it is extremely important to give children the foundation to succeed in school. School really is a child's most challenging part of the day & as teachers we need to step into their shoes & remember that while we are complete with our education we tend to forget that when you are actually in school experiencing it it is the child's world. It's where they spend the majority of their time & what they talk about when they are at home with their parents. When a student feels like they are not succeeding it can have a huge negative impact on their life so we need to make sure that we pay attention & help them succeed.
Video Clip #12 Counting Blocks in a Mirror
The child is counting blocks & the teacher is sitting next to her talking to her about what she is doing. She allows the child to discover for herself & then asks her supporting questions to get her to scaffold beyond what she is learning. The child is being challenged at her level while the teacher is helping add new ideas & knowledge to her findings. The teacher is helping the child feel successful & encouraging her to learn for herself but ensuring that she knows that there is a trust worthy person to support if needed.

Video Clip #13 Hard Fun
The speaker in this video makes an excellent point which is that learning should be hard but fun. She does not mean hard as in it should be so difficult that children are frustrated & throwing their hands up in their in defeat but that while the activities they do should be fun they should be developmentally appropriate & challenging.

Video #14 Infants Love of Faces
The teacher notices that the infant she is interacting with has an interest in faces so she makes lot's of faces for the child to interact with. As early childhood professionals we know that infants learn from natural cues, facial expressions, & just observing & taking in everything they see & can touch. The teacher is responding to the infants moment of learning which is helping him achieve new experiences that will help him grow.

Video #15 The Sequence of Learning
The speaker is talking about building foundations for future ideas. This is very true in that children need basic information before they can move on to higher learning. There is an order in which things should be learned. There is an order in which children develop. It is like the saying, "You can't learn to ride a bike before you learn to walk." Everything has it's time & that is especially true in learning.

Video #16 Reading a Story in Small Group
The teacher is not simply reading the book to the children & having the children be silent as she reads. She is having the children involved in the story, helping her tell the story. She is giving them the chance to feel apart of the story & speak their opinion as she reads. They are actively participating & being challenged with questions they ask as well as the questions she asks. It helps develop vocabulary & scaffold. On top of that it is incorporating fun into the literacy lesson. All learning should be fun! She does a great job keeping the children alert & allowing them to become better readers.
