Earth Week Lesson Plan for Preschool
I chose figure 5.1 on page 69 to create an Earth Day/Week Lesson plan for preschoolers. This lesson can be adjusted with minor changes in the literacy activities to work for younger ages. I chose Earth Day because it is important to teach children at an early age to respect & take care of the planet that they live on. They can use those skills in their classroom when cleaning or being compassionate towards their friends. This lesson is date specific in that it is meant to be taught during the week of the national holiday which is April 22nd.
I actually really like this lesson plan format because it is easy to navigate. Working with parents & having written a few lesson plans navigation is extremely important because there is not a lot of time to spend trying to read every little detail especially when talking to parents. We are all on a time schedule & can't spend 30 minutes explaining things every single day. This lesson plan is straight to the point & from the top you can tell what the topic of the day is & underneath comes all of the supporting activities that go with that topic. It is detailed enough & to the point & most importantly it's not confusing. The only modification I would really make is that there is no Friday & a lot of programs are Monday - Friday not Monday - Thursday.
